Your Bird Show Check list and Schedule You can change and adjust to fit your personal needs) · Annually spray your birds with a soft-spray spray bottle filled with water that is kept in the fridge, preferably early morning. · Several weeks ahead of the show, start placing bird in the show box for short visits. Then lengthen the time gradually so that 2-3 weeks before the show the bird can spend all day in his show box without getting upset. · A week before the show, thoroughly clean your show box and touch up any paint chips with “baby approved” paint. Let dry. · Take a small info tag with a string with the birds name, species, sex and Leg band information (Society name, breeder initials, clutch number and year in that order) and tie on their show box/ carrier. · Make a list of your birds and their information and tuck into their travel bag. Along with this you will have placed each bird’s info on a label that can be pealed off, along with return address labels. · I have cardboard boxes that are perfect size to hold 2-3 show boxes that are ready to go. · The day before the show, I put my birds in their boxes with fresh seed placed in the bottom. They are now ready to leave bright and early in the morning. · The morning of the show, make sure my coffee is ready; grab my bird envelope and supplies and my boxes of birds. · Arrive at the show 45 minutes early. · Spray birds with cool water from their spray bottle · Get show tags and sheet from the show secretary. They will find you help if you are just getting started. · Copy your bird info onto show sheet such as the cage number that is on the cage tag: class number, section number and division and leg band number with a description of your bird, i.e. Lineolated male or hen, color mutation. If you make a mistake, they will not kick you out, as I think I have tested there patience quite sufficiently! · Remove info tag from one show box at a time and place the information on the show tag . Place the bird’s peel off label at the bottom of the show tag over description and band number .Above that your place your return address label. · Fill waterers on show box right before turning birds in to show secretary or steward. · Wipe off any dust on your show box · Sit back and wait for boxes of prizes and ribbons to come your way, or bring your favorite magazine ( bird or horse!) to read and study!!! · A week in advance I thoroughly clean show boxes and touch up any paint chips with “baby approved” paint. Do this well in advance so the paint has plenty of time to dry. · Identify your cages with small tags if you have two birds that look similar. This will prevent the need to remove the bird to read the small band number and saves time when I first arrive at the show. · I will put bird’s names, species, color, sex and leg band information on blank peel off labels. These can then be peeled off later and placed on the show tag to save time at the event · I compile a collection of cardboard boxes that hold 2-3 show boxes for use in transporting to the show. These are usually free and perfect for keeping drafts and weather off. I select boxes that fit on a small foldable suitcase dollie for wheeling into the show hall. · The day before the show, I put my birds in their show boxes with fresh seed placed in the bottom of the box so they are ready to leave bright and early in the morning. · The morning of the show, make sure my coffee is ready; grab my bird envelope and supplies (scissors, electrical tape, scotch tape, pen, marker, spray bottle, rag) and my boxes of birds. · Arrive at the show at least 45 minutes early. Your first time you’ll want to be even earlier! · Get show tags and sheet from the show secretary. · From the show program and your information on your labels, transfer the required information to the show sheet (consisting of: show tag number, class number, section number, division, leg band number, and the description of your bird). If you make a mistake, they will not kick you out, as I think I have tested there patience quite sufficiently! · Place the bird description peel off label at the bottom of the show tag over description/band number and place your return address label over Name. Saves a lot of writing when the anxiety level is high! Remve identification tag from show box one at a time and replace with their own official show tag. · Spray birds with cool water from their spray bottle Fill waterers on show box right and wipe off any dust on your show box before turning birds in to show secretary or steward.
